We’ll be moving house in a couple months, and I’ve started slowly slowly packing away decorative items that have made our apartment a home these past 3.5 years. Once emptied, it’s interesting to see the footprints we leave behind from loving a place. The traces of photo frames, empty nails, and scribbled dates recording Camilla’s growth all remind me a bit of the sad houses the Grinch left behind in his attempt to steal Christmas.
“Then he went up the chimney, himself, the old liar. On their walls he left nothing but hooks and some wire.” – Dr. Seuss
But as I patch every hole and wrap up our goods, I am also overcome with excitement and deepest gratitude for the next place we’ll hang our hats. It will be the home in which we welcome our second child, grow our first vegetable garden, send Camilla off to school, enjoy / suffer the double-edged sword of renovations, and the place in which I will have my first professional art studio. A few glimpses of where we’re going…
Don’t these just beg to be immortalized in a work of art?!!
And in mentioning my art, here’s a peek at my first stab at smocking. Pretty content with the outcome, if I do say so myself! Looking forward to piecing a bunch of these together in the next cloud for my series.
“Dragon’s scale pattern” After the next line of stitches, I will tilt the angle of my stitch pattern up to the left and see what we come up with.
Thanks for reading!
